Parent Involvement

The parent council has received funding from the Province of Ontario’s Parent’s Reaching Out (PRO) Grant for several years and have been proud to host the following sessions to help parents and students build skills to address some of the life challenges we face. We felt the value of these sessions were excellent for our school community.

If you would like to help plan future events to engage parents in our school community, please contact us.

2016/17 Parent Involvement Presentation: T.A.S.A.M. Tackling Anxiety and Stress through Arts and Mindfulness

St Cyril CSPC was proud to host the TASAM program on November 21, 2016. During the day, through story telling, a child development expert from Arts Express http://www.ArtsExpress.ca led some of our classes through an age appropriate mindfulness movement workshop on meditation to relieve stress and anxiety.

Later in the evening, a parent discussion was led by Jennifer Kay who is a child and youth counselor and mental wellness advocate. Jennifer has worked extensively in group homes for youth across the GTA as well in a Crisis unit at the Hospital for Sick Kids. Her discussion was designed to support the techniques and tools that the students  learned earlier in the day and to impart creative and informative solutions for parents to help ease the everyday stress and anxieties that every family experiences.

If you missed the event, here’s the handout presented at the evening parent session.
